Having moved to the Basque Country a month and a half ago, Dominguez works in hematology, often taking night shifts. She reports a high volume of work, particularly during the summer months, but praises her colleagues for their exceptional support and empathy. "They welcomed me super, super well from the first moment," Dominguez stated, adding that patients are also understanding, even if she doesn't speak Basque. However, Dominguez highlighted significant difficulties with housing in San Sebastián, describing it as "a constant desperation" due to extremely high prices and limited availability, especially for non-students. She noted that cities like Bilbao and Vitoria offer more affordable and accessible housing options. Despite these challenges, Dominguez expressed her deep affection for San Sebastián, describing it as "precious" with beautiful landscapes and a vibrant atmosphere. She also commended the city's public transport system, including buses and local trains, for being well-connected and affordable with the Mugi card. Regarding her financial situation, Dominguez confirmed that her salary allows her to save money, even with the high cost of living and an active social life. She mentioned the existence of 'retén' (on-call) contracts and occasional assignments to different hospital floors, such as oncology, but emphasized that these are manageable movements within her specialization. Dominguez concluded by encouraging fellow nurses from Andalusia to consider moving outside their comfort zones, particularly to San Sebastián, assuring them of a positive and enriching professional experience.
