
Malaysia and Laos Back Timor-Leste's ASEAN Bid, Urge Myanmar Peace
Malaysia and Laos voiced their support for Timor-Leste's full membership in ASEAN during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Laotian Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone. The event, held in Putrajaya, Malaysia, also addressed the ongoing situation in Myanmar, with both leaders stressing the importance of humanitarian aid and a peaceful resolution. "We discussed the accession of Timor-Leste, which we hope can be finalized by October this year," Prime Minister Ibrahim stated. The press conference also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Malaysian and Laotian port authorities.
