
Malaysia, UK Forge Stronger Ties: Collaboration on Climate Change, Disaster Relief, and Halal Industry
Malaysia and the UK Strengthen Ties with Focus on Disaster Management and Climate Change London, UK – June 3, 2025 – In a significant meeting held in London on Monday, Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and UK Minister Steve Reed discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation. The discussions covered key areas including disaster management, climate change mitigation, clean water initiatives, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and the global halal industry. The meeting was attended by the Chairman of MARA, Datuk Dr. Ashraf Wajdi Dusuki, and approximately 60 Malaysian students. "This meeting opens new avenues for strategic collaboration between Malaysia and the UK," said Zahid, highlighting the importance of a more inclusive and sustainable future. He emphasized the need for increased public awareness regarding the impact of climate change and river pollution, even in Malaysia. Zahid also used the opportunity to encourage the Malaysian students present to return home and contribute their skills and knowledge to nation-building. He acknowledged that while salaries may be higher in the UK, their expertise is vital for Malaysia's progress. The four-day working visit concluded on Wednesday.
