Spain Bans Commercial Calls from Mobiles to Curb Scams
Spain Cracks Down on Fraudulent Calls: New Measures Aim to Silence Spam. Spain is taking a firm stance against the surge in fraudulent phone calls and text messages. Starting June 7th, 2025, commercial calls from mobile numbers will be banned nationwide. This follows the successful example of Finland, where similar regulations led to a 90% drop in phone scams since March 2025. "The measures that have been taken have not been effective," stated one consumer advocate, highlighting the ongoing problem despite previous prohibitions. The Spanish government aims to combat this by allowing commercial calls only from fixed-line numbers or those specifically registered for this purpose. The Ministry of Digital Transformation reported blocking 235,000 calls and 10,000 SMS messages daily since March 2025. This proactive approach reflects a growing global concern about phone scams and underscores the importance of consumer protection.
