Double Road Rage Shooting Charges Against Chicago Man
Chicago Man Charged in Two Road Rage Shootings; One Victim Was Off-Duty Police Officer A 35-year-old suburban man, Giovanni Gomez, faces serious charges in connection with two separate road rage shootings in the Chicago area. In the most recent incident, Gomez is charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting an off-duty Chicago police officer in September 2022. The shooting occurred after a traffic altercation in the 3600 block of North Austin. Police responded to the scene and found the officer injured. Gomez was apprehended later. "The shooting happened following a crash," stated a news reporter from ABC7 Chicago in a recent report. Adding to the gravity of the situation, Gomez was also charged last month with murder in a 2021 road rage shooting in Gurnee, Illinois. In that incident, 22-year-old Daniel Lobo, a student at Southern Illinois University, was killed. Lobo was a passenger in a car when the driver got into a dispute with Gomez, leading to the fatal shooting. Gomez's actions highlight a dangerous escalation of road rage incidents and underscore the need for responsible driving behavior. The cases serve as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of aggressive driving.
