NYC Boat Fire Leaves Dozens Injured, Captain Arrested for DUI
Boat Captain Arrested After Fire Injures Dozens in NYC A 33-year-old boat captain, Joshua Brito, has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and reckless endangerment following a fire aboard his vessel in New York City on Saturday night. The incident resulted in injuries to approximately two dozen people. According to ABC7 Eyewitness News, most of the 22 people on board jumped into the water to escape the blaze and swam to safety. However, three individuals required rescue from the water. The Coast Guard and other emergency services responded to the scene. "The fire spread quickly," said one eyewitness, James Kisiday, who captured footage of the burning boat. "It was terrifying to watch." Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, but Brito's arrest suggests alcohol may have played a role. The investigation is ongoing. The injured passengers were treated for various injuries, with some requiring hospitalization. The full extent of their injuries is still being assessed.
