Death Toll Climbs as Israel and Iran Trade Fresh Waves of Strikes
Amidst the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, a new wave of attacks has left a trail of destruction and casualties. Overnight into Sunday, both nations carried out fresh waves of deadly attacks, marking the third day of strikes following Israel's Friday attack. ABC News' Marcus Moore, reporting live from Bat Yam, Israel, described the scene: "We are just south of Tel Aviv at the site where an Iranian missile landed on a residential building overnight. You can see the damage. Crews are urgently searching for three people who are said to be missing in that rubble. We also learned that several people died here, including children." Videos circulating online capture the scale of the strikes in Bat Yam, where at least six people were killed, including two children, and more than 100 wounded. In a separate incident, at least four people were killed and 14 injured in Tamra after a direct hit. Israel's Iron Dome air defense system intercepted some of the missiles, but several evaded the system. Iran's barrage of missiles and drones soared over Jordan toward Israel. Images throughout Iran show the aftermath of Israeli strikes on Iranian oil depots. Despite calls for diplomacy and restraint, a meeting scheduled for Sunday to discuss a potential new Iran nuclear deal was called off due to the attacks. The escalating violence underscores the urgent need for de-escalation and a return to diplomatic efforts to prevent further loss of life.
