Record Cocaine Bust: $623 Million Worth of Drugs Seized Off NSW Coast
A major drug bust unfolded off the coast of New South Wales, Australia, resulting in the seizure of over a tonne of cocaine with an estimated street value of $623.4 million. Five men have been arrested and charged in connection with the operation, a joint effort between NSW Police and the Australian Federal Police (AFP). Detective Superintendent Jason Weinstein of NSW Police stated, "While these seizures aren't weekly occurrences, they certainly happen every year, indicating a rise in drug distribution." Assistant Commissioner Stephen Dametto of the AFP highlighted the lengths organised crime will go to for profit. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities haven't ruled out further arrests. This significant seizure underscores the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in Australia.
