Uganda's Unseen Resilience: A Traveler's Encounter in Katanga, Kampala
Kampala, Uganda – A recent video shared by traveler Abraham Jessy offers a poignant look into the daily life of residents in Kampala's Katanga area. The footage captures Jessy interacting with locals, including children, on a bustling street. During his visit, Jessy engaged in conversation with a local man and inquired about two young children, noting their distinct appearance. He learned that the children are of mixed Ugandan and Yemeni heritage, reflecting the diverse fabric of the community. In a gesture of goodwill, Jessy extended an invitation to a local man to share a meal, offering to purchase food for him. Reflecting on his observations, Jessy remarked on the visible signs of poverty in the area. However, he emphasized a striking difference from other countries he has visited: 'No one begging, no one asking for money,' he stated in the video. 'These kids are not used to going to people and asking for money or anything, which is very different than other countries I have been to.' This observation highlights a narrative of resilience and dignity within the community, offering a unique perspective on the social dynamics in this part of Uganda.
