KAMPALA, Uganda – A recent video captured a traveler’s culinary adventure in Uganda, showcasing a traditional meal of goat meat and matooke. The traveler, identified as Abraham Jessy, purchased the dish from a local woman, paying 5,000 Ugandan Shillings, equivalent to approximately $1.36 USD. The meal, consisting of goat meat, internal organs, matooke (a local banana variety), rice, and cabbage, was prepared fresh on-site. During their interaction, the local vendor revealed that she typically eats beans and rice due to the cost of meat, stating she last had goat meat a year ago. Mr. Jessy expressed his delight with the meal, describing it as "very good" and "one of the best meals" he has had in Uganda, emphasizing its freshness. The video offers a brief but insightful look into local food culture and the daily economic realities faced by residents.
