Flower Micromoon and Planetary Alignment to Grace May Skies
The Flower Moon, a Micromoon, Lights Up the Night Sky AccuWeather meteorologist Melissa Constanzer reports that the full moon on Monday, May 11, 2025, is a micromoon, meaning it appears smaller than a supermoon because it's at its furthest point from Earth. "It's named the Flower Moon, as it's the time of year that flowers are in bloom across North America," Constanzer explains in a recent video. The moon also has other names, including the Frog Moon, Planting Moon, and Egg Laying Moon. While technically 14% smaller than a supermoon, Constanzer notes that most people won't notice the size difference. The video also highlights a future celestial event: on May 23rd, the crescent moon will align with Saturn and Venus, offering another opportunity for skywatchers.
