Child Missing, School Evacuated After Devastating Flash Floods
Flash floods in Maryland and Virginia leave one child missing and force school evacuations. Heavy rains on Tuesday caused widespread flooding in Alleghany County, Maryland, and Albemarle County, Virginia. In Westernport, Maryland, 150 students and 50 adults were rescued from Westernport Elementary School by boat after floodwaters rose to near the ceiling of the first floor. "It's an alert that's issued rarely and reserved for life-threatening situations," said Anna Azallion, AccuWeather broadcaster. Meanwhile, in Virginia, a 12-year-old boy is missing after the same storm caused significant flooding in his area. Fire rescue crews responded to both locations. The region is expected to see more rain in the coming days.
