ACLU Sues DoD Over Censorship of Books in Military Schools
A lawsuit has been filed against the Department of Defense (DoD) by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) for banning books related to race and gender from schools on military bases worldwide. ACLU staff attorney Emerson Sykes stated, "The government has admitted that it immediately pulled 555 books from library shelves and 41 curriculum materials." This action is a direct result of President Trump's executive orders banning gender ideology and diversity, equity ideology. Among the banned books are popular titles like "The Handmaid's Tale" and "Julian is a Mermaid." The ACLU is hopeful the court will recognize the constitutional violations and order the immediate return of these materials to the schools. This case highlights the ongoing debate regarding censorship and access to diverse educational resources in the United States.
