‘Doesn’t Uber or Lyft know who he is?’: Rideshare driver picks up passenger des…
Rideshare drivers are used to weird interactions. But for one woman, a recent trip ended in something far worse.
On July 27th, a rideshare driver, known as 'That Rideshare Chick,' experienced a harrowing incident when her phone was stolen by a passenger, resulting in the draining of her bank accounts and compromised personal passwords within 45 minutes. The driver, with eight years of experience, shared dashcam footage of the theft and detailed five critical 'red flags' she observed during the ride. According to the driver, the suspicious signs included an unusually short ride, a passenger name composed of jumbled letters, the absence of a profile picture on the passenger's account, disabled GPS location, and the passenger wearing a mask while approaching the vehicle. She explained that individually, these might not be cause for alarm, but collectively, they indicated a high risk. The incident serves as a stark warning to other rideshare drivers. 'I should have trusted my gut instinct and cancelled the ride,' she stated. The driver urges fellow drivers to be vigilant, recognize these warning signs, and prioritize their safety to avoid becoming victims of similar thefts.
