Madrid, Spain – A Spanish couple, Alazne and her partner, are facing a significant hurdle in their plans to travel to the United States. Their previous visit to Cuba in 2023 has rendered them ineligible for the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), a common visa waiver program for many European citizens. According to Alazne, the couple now requires a B1/B2 visa to enter the U.S. However, the current waiting period for an interview at the U.S. Embassy in Madrid is reportedly 700 days, posing a major challenge to their travel itinerary. "We have a big problem, and it's all because we were in Cuba last year," Alazne stated in a recent video, expressing their distress. The couple has explored alternatives, including applying for the visa in other European cities such as Rome or Lisbon, where appointment wait times are considerably shorter. However, they are uncertain if Spanish nationals are permitted to apply for U.S. visas from consulates outside of Spain. "We don't know if we can go there and do it," her partner added, highlighting their confusion. They are urgently seeking advice and shared experiences from individuals who have navigated similar situations, particularly those who were denied ESTA due to travel to countries on the U.S. State Sponsors of Terrorism list. The couple hopes to find a viable solution to secure their visas without having to wait for an extended period or risk losing their travel investment.
