The actor, who spent his formative years in Tenerife, emphasized his strong sense of Canarian identity, stating, "I grew up in the Canary Islands, I went to school in Tenerife, I was raised there." Despite his international career, which has taken him across Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom, Skylar revealed that he always found himself returning to Spain. He expressed a unique challenge he faced, noting, "It cost me a lot at first to find my personality in English." When asked about his involvement in Spanish cinema, Skylar clarified, "Obviously, I don't feel part of it because I haven't participated. It would be wrong to say I feel part of it." However, he quickly added, "I feel like a fan. I am a big fan of our country's cinema and I am a big fan of our culture."
