Tesla Owner Shares Surprising Realities of EV Savings San Francisco, CA – A local software engineer, Allen Tran, has shed light on the actual financial impact of owning a Tesla Model 3 for one year, challenging common perceptions about electric vehicle savings. In a recent video, Tran detailed his personal experience, comparing the costs of his 2023 Tesla Model 3 with his previous BMW. Tran reported that his gas savings over a 10-month period amounted to an estimated $334, a figure he admitted was “less than I expected.” He noted, “I thought I was saving way more on gas, but it doesn't look like I'm actually saving that much.” This calculation was derived from the official Tesla app, which showed he spent $1,432 on charging while the gas equivalent was $1,766. However, Tran highlighted a more significant area of savings: maintenance. He recounted the high repair costs of his previous luxury sedan. “My previous car was out at the shop more than the mechanics themselves,” he stated, adding that it “racked up tens of thousands of dollars of repairs in just a few years.” In contrast, his Tesla, after nearly 15,000 miles, only required two tire replacements costing approximately $600. Tran concluded that while gas savings might be modest, the substantial reduction in maintenance expenses makes the Tesla a valuable investment. He also mentioned an existing warranty covering up to 50,000 miles, further solidifying his positive outlook on long-term ownership costs.
