Traveler Uncovers Unexpected Realities and Curiosities in Egypt A recent travel vlog by Casares Álvaro, titled "Things I didn't like and Curiosities about Egypt," offers a candid look into the daily experiences of a tourist in the North African nation. Álvaro shares a range of observations, from surprising conveniences to concerning societal issues. Among the unexpected findings, Álvaro noted the unique design of water bottles where the cap is not attached, the surprisingly lenient airport security allowing liquids on planes, and the remarkably low price of gasoline, estimated at 10 to 20 euro cents per liter. He also highlighted the common practice of hotels providing arrows indicating the direction of Mecca for prayer. However, the vlog also shed light on significant challenges. Álvaro reported a notable lack of road safety, with multiple people often riding a single motorcycle and drivers frequently using phones without seatbelts. He described the traffic as chaotic, with pedestrians needing to "throw themselves" into the street to cross as vehicles rarely stop. Concerns were also raised about unsanitary conditions, such as fish being sold openly on the street, and the reported harassment of Western women. A particularly striking observation was the alleged corruption within the police force, with the driver reportedly bribing an officer at a checkpoint. Despite these issues, Álvaro found the streets to be generally safe and praised the local cuisine as "delicious."
