KATAPOLA, AMORGOS – A traditional festival celebrating local culture in Katapola, Amorgos, was abruptly halted last night following an unexpected political protest. During the 'Feast of Psymeni' (Γιορτή της Ψημένης), a group of individuals unfurled a Palestinian flag and began chanting slogans in support of Gaza, disrupting the ongoing musical performance. Eyewitnesses reported that the crowd, gathered to enjoy the festivities, reacted with strong disapproval, booing the protesters. Organizers and attendees expressed their dismay at the politicization of a cultural event, emphasizing that the festival was meant to honor local traditions and had no connection to political affairs. The situation quickly escalated, with reports indicating that objects were thrown towards the musicians on stage, leading to immediate clashes among attendees. As a result of the escalating tensions and confrontations, the festival was forced to conclude much earlier than planned. Local authorities have not yet released a statement regarding the incident, but the disruption has sparked considerable discussion among residents about the intersection of local traditions and global political issues.
