Accra Brewery PLC Commits to Boosting Local Farmer Livelihoods and Sourcing
Accra Brewery PLC Boosts Local Sourcing, Eyes 80% Local Raw Materials Accra Brewery PLC (ABL) recently celebrated local farmers, reaffirming its commitment to prioritizing their health and development. The event highlighted ABL's strategic move towards increasing its local raw material sourcing, a move expected to significantly benefit Ghana's agricultural sector. Speaking at the event, Mr. Solomon, Head of Legal and Corporate Affairs at Accra Brewery PLC, stated, "Currently, 50% of our raw materials are sourced locally. We aim to increase this to 80% in the near future." He emphasized that this initiative not only supports local farmers but also contributes to the nation's economic growth by reducing reliance on imports. Mr. Frederick Osodi, Country Director for the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), underscored the importance of such partnerships. He noted that while local sourcing of raw materials is crucial, the absence of a local glass factory for bottling remains a challenge, forcing companies to import bottles at high costs. "If we had a local glass factory, it would further boost local production and create more jobs," Mr. Osodi remarked, urging a revisit of policies to encourage local manufacturing of essential inputs. Farmers present at the event expressed appreciation for ABL's efforts, citing improved livelihoods and health support. The initiative aligns with broader national goals of industrialization and agricultural development.
