Elda, Spain – A recent case highlights the critical importance of thorough vehicle inspections, especially when purchasing used cars. A Suzuki owner has faced persistent engine problems since acquiring a vehicle from a dealer in Elda, Alicante, just seven months ago. Despite a previous catalytic converter replacement, the issues persisted. Ángel Gaitan, a mechanic from GT Automoción and Training Tech Academy, performed a compression test on the vehicle, revealing a significant loss of compression in one of the cylinders. "The compression was around 8 kg in other cylinders, but only about 5 kg in the problematic one," Gaitan stated, demonstrating the reading with a specialized gauge. He further explained that internal inspection showed pistons "washed" by gasoline, indicating severe engine damage. This diagnosis suggests that the engine requires replacement, a far more extensive and costly repair than previously attempted. The owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, expressed frustration, noting that earlier workshops had not conducted a compression test, a fundamental diagnostic step. The incident raises questions about the quality of pre-purchase inspections and warranty claims in the used car market.
