Madrid, Spain – A recent incident at a local automotive workshop has shed light on a lesser-known fact about certain Toyota models, sparking discussion among car owners and enthusiasts. Mechanic Ángel Gaitan, known for his online presence, recently shared a video detailing a client's frustration with a Toyota Proace van that developed significant issues at just 30,000 kilometers. The owner, identified as Mohamed, brought his van to Gaitan's workshop after experiencing a severe loss of power and multiple warning lights illuminating on the dashboard, including the engine light and a service indicator. "Mohamed came to me saying, 'Ángel, you say Toyota is very good, but my Toyota is not very good!'" Gaitan recounted in his video. Gaitan quickly identified the root of the problem, revealing a detail often overlooked by consumers. "I told you this isn't a Toyota, right?" Gaitan stated to Mohamed, who confirmed, "No." Gaitan then clarified, "What car is this?" to which Mohamed replied, "Peugeot." Gaitan explained that the Toyota Proace, like several other Toyota van models sold in Europe, is a rebadged vehicle manufactured by Peugeot, meaning it uses a Peugeot engine and components. This revelation highlights a practice common in the automotive industry, where manufacturers collaborate and share platforms or engines. However, it can lead to consumer confusion, as owners might expect the reliability associated with one brand while unknowingly driving a vehicle with components from another. The incident serves as a cautionary tale for potential buyers to research the true origin of their vehicle's parts, especially when purchasing models resulting from brand collaborations.
