Melbourne, Australia - A local woman, identified as Ange, has voiced profound distress and frustration after the National Australia Bank (NAB) reportedly blocked access to multiple family accounts, including her critically ill mother's, her own, and her daughter's savings. The issue arose when Ange attempted to transfer funds to purchase a hospital bed for her mother, who is currently hospitalized. Despite holding power of attorney and being a signatory on her mother's account, Ange found all related accounts frozen. Ange recounted her ordeal, stating she visited a NAB branch in Victoria, where staff attempted to assist by contacting the bank's fraud department. However, the fraud department insisted that her mother, despite being in acute hospital care, must be physically present at the branch to unblock the funds. "I said, 'Do you like me to bring my mum to the branch in a coffin?'" Ange emotionally recounted, highlighting the bank's inflexibility. She added that the situation has caused immense stress for her, her mother, and her daughter, who faces impending overseas travel without access to her savings. Ange asserts that the transactions were legitimate and all necessary paperwork, including her power of attorney, was provided to the bank. She criticizes NAB's refusal to release the funds, stating, "This is not fraud. You have all the paperwork, but you refuse to let me have the money." She plans to close all family accounts with NAB once the funds are finally unfrozen, citing the "pathetic" and stressful experience.
