Polish Dentist Reveals Real Earnings: How Much Do Dentists Make on B2B Contracts?

WARSAW, Poland – A recent viral video by a Polish dentist, Anna Kurek, DDS, has shed light on the intricate financial realities of the dental profession in Poland. Dr. Kurek, known as @ania_dentist on social media, shared a detailed breakdown of how dentists typically earn their income, primarily through Business-to-Business (B2B) contracts. According to Dr. Kurek, the majority of dentists in Poland operate as independent contractors, receiving a percentage of the revenue generated from their patient treatments. "Most dentists work on a B2B basis, meaning they have a sole proprietorship and receive a percentage of the turnover they generate," she explained. This percentage, she noted, generally ranges from 35% to 50% of the patient's payment. Orthodontists, however, may receive a higher percentage, sometimes even 100% of the fees. Dr. Kurek emphasized that a dentist's daily earnings are influenced by several factors, including the number of patients seen, the complexity and type of procedures performed, and the speed at which these procedures are completed. She provided a hypothetical example: "If you generate 500 PLN per hour, and your shift is six hours, that's 3,000 PLN. From that, you might receive 40%, which is 1,200 PLN per day." However, she quickly added that this gross income is subject to various deductions. Dentists are responsible for covering their own accounting fees, income tax (either 14% or 19% depending on the chosen tax form, such as flat tax or lump sum), and ZUS (social security contributions). Dr. Kurek humorously, yet pointedly, highlighted one particular recurring cost: "The worst fee, in my opinion, and the one that pains my heart the most when I transfer it, is the contribution to the Medical Chamber, which amounts to 120 PLN." She also noted that dentists are typically exempt from VAT and CIT taxes. While acknowledging that patient cancellations can lead to income gaps, Dr. Kurek concluded that it is entirely possible for dentists to earn "several thousand or even over 20,000 PLN monthly." She stressed that official statistics on average earnings are hard to come by, as incomes can vary significantly even month-to-month based on individual practice and specialization.
