CORFU, Greece – A flight bound for Corfu experienced a dramatic engine incident on August 16, 2025, as a passenger recorded a visible flare from one of the aircraft's engines. The video, widely shared online, shows bright orange flames emanating from the engine during what aviation experts have identified as a compressor stall. The footage, captured from a window seat, initially depicts a routine flight over the scenic coastline of Corfu. Suddenly, the engine on the wing bursts into a brief, intense blaze, accompanied by loud noises. While alarming to passengers, a compressor stall is typically not a catastrophic event and engines are designed to withstand them. Comments from aviation enthusiasts and other passengers on social media suggest the aircraft was a Condor flight. One commenter stated, "A normal Compressor stall, not an emergency," while another added, "Passiert nix, ein Flugzeug kann mit einem Triebwerk fliegen. Feuer wird gelöscht durch 2 Maßnahmen in der Turbine und drittens es ist eine Airbus Maschine also stabil. Dont Worry!" (Nothing happens, a plane can fly with one engine. Fire is extinguished by 2 measures in the turbine and thirdly it's an Airbus machine so stable. Don't Worry!). Another passenger claimed to have been on the same flight, saying, "Ich bin genau dieses Flugzeug an Dienstag geflogen." The aircraft reportedly continued its flight safely to its destination. Such incidents, while visually startling, are often managed by robust aircraft systems and trained crew.
