South Africa Urges Peaceful Resolution to Global Conflicts, Citing Gaza, Ukraine, and Iran-Israel Tensions
South African Presidency Calls for Global Peace and De-escalation of Conflicts In a recent press briefing, the Head of Digital Communications in the Presidency of the Republic of South Africa reiterated the nation's steadfast commitment to global peace and stability. Speaking on the sidelines of an international engagement, the official highlighted South Africa's consistent calls for the de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East, particularly concerning the ongoing conflict in Gaza. "President Ramaphosa has been quite consistent in calling for the de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East," the official stated, emphasizing the importance of preventing the conflict from extending further into the region. He noted that one of Canada's priorities for the current G7 meeting is the strengthening of peace and stability, a position South Africa fully aligns with. The South African representative underscored the necessity of peaceful resolutions for all global conflicts, citing examples such as the situations between Russia and Ukraine, India and Pakistan, and Iran and Israel. "We will continue making that call that those conflicts have to stop, those conflicts must be resolved through negotiation," he affirmed. He further asserted that there are no winners in any prolonged conflict, only devastating consequences including loss of life, destruction of infrastructure, and disruption of economic activity and supply chains. The official also stressed the crucial role of the United Nations as the most credible broker of peace in resolving these disputes. South Africa pledges continued support and assistance where required, reinforcing its position on international peace and cooperation.
