‘When In Doubt, Zoom Out’: This Investing Strategy Could Earn You $1 Million
Investing expert and influencer Austin Hankwitz may be young, but he's already got more than $1 million invested in the stock market, and a strategy …
Financial analyst Austin Hankwitz recently shared three essential strategies for investors aiming for long-term stock market success. Addressing concerns that the stock market is akin to a casino, Hankwitz, who has over $1 million invested, outlined his approach. The first strategy, "Portfolio Construction," suggests that the majority of an investment portfolio should be allocated to index funds and Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), with a smaller portion invested in "blue-chip" single stocks. Examples of recommended index funds and ETFs include VOO, VTI, SCHD, SPYI, and QQQ, while blue-chip stocks mentioned include Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B), Amazon (AMZN), and Google (GOOG). Secondly, Hankwitz stressed the importance of "Diversification" beyond traditional stocks and index funds. He advised investors, once ready, to diversify into real estate, precious metals, fine wine, and whiskey. Specific examples of diversified assets provided were VNQ (real estate ETF), GLD (gold ETF), SLV (silver ETF), VXUS (international stock ETF), IYRI (real estate ETF), QQQH (healthcare ETF), CSHI (cash ETF), and BTCI (Bitcoin ETF). Finally, the analyst highlighted that "Consistency is more important than Timing." He urged investors to "zoom out" when in doubt, demonstrating that while the market may experience short-term dips (like a 7% drop in a month for Vanguard S&P 500 ETF), it has historically shown significant long-term growth, with the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF being up over 400% in the last 15 years. This long-term perspective, combined with a diversified and strategically constructed portfolio, is presented as the path to achieving substantial investment goals, such as reaching a million dollars invested.
