Chisinau, Moldova – Car owners in Moldova are facing increased costs for mandatory technical inspections, with prices varying significantly across different service stations. According to Constantin Mihalachi from AutoBlog.MD, while some inspection centers have seen a modest increase of 50 Moldovan Lei, others have raised their fees substantially, reaching up to 600-650 MDL per inspection. Mihalachi noted that new regulations have also been introduced, stipulating that vehicles under ten years old will require technical inspections less frequently. Furthermore, new cars purchased directly from showrooms are exempt from technical inspections for the first two years. This change aims to streamline the process for newer vehicles, but the varying price hikes for older cars are causing concern among drivers. “It’s important for car owners to check prices at different stations before undergoing their technical inspection,” Mihalachi advised. “Prices can vary quite a bit, and you might find more favorable rates online.” He also hinted at the possibility of a “cartel agreement” among some inspection stations, suggesting that prices might be artificially inflated, a practice that competent authorities in the country would likely disapprove of.
