BMW N47 Engine: Understanding and Addressing Timing Chain Issues
Bucharest, Romania – AXM SERVICE BMW recently highlighted a critical maintenance procedure for BMW F10 models equipped with the N47 2.0-liter diesel engine: timing chain replacement. The service center demonstrated the signs of a worn timing chain, characterized by a distinct metallic sound when the engine is cold. The video showcased the old, worn components, including the stretched timing chains and guides that had developed grooves from extended use. Technicians at AXM SERVICE BMW emphasized that all replacement parts used are new and original BMW components, ensuring optimal performance and longevity for the vehicle. According to the service specialists, timing chain replacement for N47 engines is typically recommended around 200,000 kilometers. However, this interval can be significantly reduced if the engine's oil changes are infrequent, for example, only every 30,000 kilometers. To maximize the lifespan of the timing chain, AXM SERVICE BMW advises owners to change their engine oil at a maximum interval of 10,000 kilometers and to exclusively use original BMW parts during any maintenance or repair work. The repair process also involves meticulous cleaning of the exhaust ports, a crucial step to ensure proper engine function after the timing chain replacement.
