Misdiagnosis Worsens Cancer, Family Seeks Funds for Treatment
Doña Eulalia's battle against multiple myeloma began with a misdiagnosis in a small health center in her hometown of Tenango de Doria, Hidalgo. The initial diagnoses failed to identify her condition, leading to a severe hip fracture. Her daughter, Verónica Basilio Reyes, explains, "They told us it was tendinitis." Months later, a correct diagnosis of multiple myeloma was made, a type of blood cancer affecting the bone marrow. The family's financial struggles are immense; they are now seeking $200,000 for a hip prosthesis. Verónica shares, "We had to improvise a stretcher to carry her down the stairs for her appointments." Despite the challenges, Doña Eulalia remains hopeful, stating, "I will fight to overcome this and return to my village."
