Mexico City Airport Reopens After Hours-Long Teacher Protest
Mexico City Airport Reopens After CNTE Teacher Protest Mexico City, May 24, 2025 – The Mexico City International Airport (AICM) returned to normal operations this morning following a protest by members of the Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación (CNTE), a national teachers' union. The demonstration, which began late Thursday evening, caused significant traffic disruptions around the airport. The CNTE teachers blocked access to Terminals 1 and 2 for several hours, demanding the repeal of the 2007 LSTE (Ley del Sistema de Educación) and salary increases. "They took over the airport terminals 1 and 2 this Friday," reported Isidro Corro, a journalist for Azteca Noticias, who filmed the event. "They walked away in the distance, leaving behind a lot of trash." The protest ended after negotiations between union leaders and government officials. The video shows the teachers leaving the area, and traffic slowly returning to normal. While some teachers attempted to access Terminal 2, airport workers had barricaded access, preventing entry. The protest caused significant delays and frustration for travelers, but the situation ultimately resolved peacefully, allowing the airport to resume its operations.
