Hidalgo Parents Block Highway, Demand Teachers and School Repairs
Parents in the town of Tula de Allende, Hidalgo, staged a protest on June 11, 2025, blocking a highway to demand the immediate appointment of teachers to replace a resigned educator at a local multigrade primary school, leaving three grade groups without instruction. "It affects our children because it's a multigrade school that only has two teachers left to cover six groups," said María del Rocío, a concerned parent. The protest also highlighted the need for repairs to a school wall that collapsed three years ago at the Felipe Carrillo school in Tula. The Hidalgo Secretariat of Education claims to have reached an agreement, promising a new teacher by September and addressing the wall issue through further bureaucratic processes. While the immediate teacher shortage remains unresolved, the parents' determination to secure their children's education underscores the importance of addressing educational resource disparities in the region.
