Reckless Driver Causes Major Police Car Pile-up, Seven Officers Injured

A police car pile-up occurred on the A1 motorway near Newcastle, County Durham, in the early hours of April 9th. The cause of the accident was a 20-year-old driver, Mazyar Azarbonyad, who was driving at a high speed and braked suddenly, causing a multiple-vehicle collision. A police spokesperson stated, "The incident was extremely serious and could have resulted in far more severe consequences." Azarbonyad, a personal trainer from Stanley, was subsequently arrested and charged with dangerous driving. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 14 months in a young offender institution.
