
Reckless Driver Causes Major Police Car Pile-up, Seven Officers Injured
A police car pile-up occurred on the A1 motorway near Newcastle, County Durham, in the early hours of April 9th. The incident involved five police cars and resulted in seven officers sustaining injuries. The cause of the accident was a 20-year-old driver, Mazyar Azarbonyad, who was driving at a high speed and braked suddenly, causing a multiple-vehicle collision. A police spokesperson stated, "The incident was extremely serious and could have resulted in far more severe consequences." Azarbonyad, a personal trainer from Stanley, was subsequently arrested and charged with dangerous driving. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 14 months in a young offender institution.
