Joleon Lescott Opens Up on Rangers Transfer Collapse: "It Was a Shambles"

Footballer Joleon Lescott Recalls Controversial Rangers Transfer Saga Former England international Joleon Lescott has shed light on the dramatic collapse of his proposed move to Scottish club Rangers, describing the process as a "shambles." Speaking on the "Beast Mode On" podcast, Lescott recounted the events that led to the deal falling through, expressing his frustration with the club's handling of the situation. Lescott detailed an initial positive meeting with then-Rangers manager Mark Warburton, who reportedly traveled to meet him two weeks prior to the intended signing. "He came down to meet me two weeks before," Lescott stated, indicating that a deal was seemingly imminent. He arrived in Glasgow expecting to sign his contract and even train with the team, but was met with unexpected developments. On the morning of the signing, Lescott was informed that a medical scan would be required for insurance purposes. Despite his long and consistent career, he agreed to the scan. However, upon returning to the training ground, he noted the absence of the manager. His agent later informed him that the doctor had "found something on the scan." Lescott dismissed the finding, stating, "It's fine," and instructed his agent to leave, believing the club was looking for a reason to withdraw. The comments section of the video reflects a divided opinion among fans, with many suggesting that Rangers made the right decision, citing Lescott's subsequent injury record. One commenter remarked, "he played 6 pro games after that scan, Rangers were correct and he's made a James Hunt of himself bringing it up." Another added, "Lucky escape for Rangers he then went to Greece played 4 games & his knee went." This narrative suggests that while Lescott felt unfairly treated, the club's medical assessment may have been prescient.
