Belarus Sees Surge in Families and Multi-Child Households
Belarus Celebrates International Family Day Amidst Rising Multi-Child Family Numbers MINSK, BELARUS – May 15th marks International Family Day, and Belarus is celebrating a notable trend: a significant increase in the number of families and, particularly, multi-child families. According to a recent news report, over 2.6 million families reside in Belarus, with more than 43% raising children under 18. This positive trend is further underscored by the fact that in 2024 alone, over 60% of Belarusians entered into their first marriage, resulting in over 46,000 new couples. The report also highlights that more than 9% of families in Belarus are multi-child families, with the highest concentration found in Brest, Gomel, and Minsk regions. This growth is attributed, in part, to government initiatives supporting families through benefits and allowances related to childbirth and child-rearing, as well as benefits in education and healthcare. The sustained increase in family formation signals a positive outlook for Belarus's future.
