Minsk, Belarus – Consumers in Belarus are facing substantial increases in the cost of everyday staples, with prices for dairy products and pasta showing significant jumps since 2022. A recent analysis conducted by a local observer highlights the sharp rise, contrasting past and current supermarket prices. According to the findings, a liter of "Brest-Litovsk" 3.6% milk, which cost 2 rubles 13 kopecks in 2022, now retails for 3 rubles 23 kopecks, marking an increase of over 51%. Similarly, "Minskaya Marka" 2.5% milk, previously priced at 2 rubles 48 kopecks for 1.5 liters, would now cost 4 rubles 50 kopecks for the same quantity, representing an 81% surge. Kefir from "Savushkin" also saw a 44.5% increase, rising from 1 ruble 78 kopecks to 2 rubles 57 kopecks for 0.95 kg. These figures contradict earlier expectations of price stabilization, indicating a continued upward trend in the cost of living for Belarusian citizens. The report underscores the ongoing economic challenges faced by households as they navigate rising inflation on essential goods.
