UNISZA Student Tragically Drowns in Setiu Flash Flood

Setiu, Terengganu, Malaysia - A tragic incident occurred on May 17, 2025, when a 22-year-old UNISZA student from Johor lost his life after being swept away by strong currents during a bath in a Setiu forest recreational area. The victim, identified as Abed Mifzal Azman, was with six friends when the incident happened. According to Setiu District Police Chief Superintendent Muhammad Zain Mat Deris, "The victim's body was sent to the Setiu Hospital forensic unit for a post-mortem." The search and rescue operation involved local residents, and Abed's body was recovered around 9:30 PM, approximately one kilometer from where he was last seen. Police have advised against river and forest activities in Setiu due to the unpredictable weather conditions. This unfortunate event serves as a reminder of the importance of safety precautions near water bodies.
