Malaysia Speeds Up Building Approvals with AI
Malaysia's Fire and Rescue Department to Utilize AI for Faster Building Approvals Kuala Lumpur, May 21, 2025 - The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) is expanding its use of artificial intelligence (AI) to expedite the approval process for building plans. This initiative aims to improve efficiency and reduce delays in construction projects. The project is currently being piloted in two locations: Kulim, Kedah, and Kulaijaya, Johor. According to Othman Abdullah, the JBPM's Deputy Director-General of Development, the AI system will analyze data on fire incidents to predict risks based on location and history. "We're starting small, with smaller, simpler buildings," Abdullah explained. "This will allow us to test and refine the system before expanding to larger projects." The system will also automate reporting and documentation processes, leading to faster turnaround times for building approvals. The JBPM's initiative is a positive step towards modernizing the construction industry in Malaysia. By leveraging AI technology, the department aims to improve public safety and facilitate economic growth.
