
Malaysia Launches Task Force to Tackle Hajj Pilgrim Scams
Malaysia Forms Special Task Force to Combat Hajj Fraud Kuala Lumpur, May 23, 2025 – A special task force has been established to address the growing problem of stranded Hajj pilgrims and associated scams. The initiative, a collaboration between the Royal Malaysian Police’s Commercial Crime Investigation Department and Tabung Haji, aims to provide swift and effective assistance to affected pilgrims and bring perpetrators to justice. According to Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasbullah Ali, Acting Director of the Commercial Crime Investigation Department, "This is a strategic step to ensure that every complaint related to stranded Hajj pilgrims is handled efficiently and effectively." The task force will commence operations on May 30th, 2025, and will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week from the main terminal of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). The task force will focus on three key areas: thorough investigations into fraudulent activities, comprehensive documentation of cases, and swift legal action against individuals and companies involved in deception. Authorities are urging all Hajj pilgrims to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. This proactive measure demonstrates Malaysia's commitment to protecting its citizens and ensuring a smooth and safe Hajj pilgrimage for all.
