Malaysia Fights Back Against Political Misinformation
PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is urging Malaysians to be vigilant against the spread of misinformation, particularly the misuse of religious texts for political purposes. A recent TikTok video by Berita RTM highlights several instances where quotes from Malaysian political figures have been manipulated and shared online. "Sharing false information is a crime," the video warns, urging viewers to report any suspicious content to the MCMC's hotline. Minister of the Department of Prime Minister (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr. Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, has also spoken out against this practice. "It is crucial to verify information before sharing it," he stated. The MCMC is actively working to combat the spread of misinformation and protect the public from harmful content.
