Malaysia's PLUS Highway Activates Smart Lanes to Combat Heavy Traffic

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – June 6, 2025 – Heavy traffic congestion has prompted PLUS, Malaysia's highway operator, to activate smart lanes at 30 strategic locations across the country. According to the report by Berita RTM, traffic volume exceeded two million vehicles overnight. Mohd Yusof Abdul Aziz, Senior General Manager of Operations at PLUS Malaysia Berhad, stated, "These 30 locations are areas we know are prone to congestion, and the activation of smart lanes is intended to alleviate this." The initiative appears to be having a positive impact, with traffic reportedly easing in the early morning. However, officials anticipate a return to congestion later in the day. The use of smart lanes demonstrates a proactive approach to managing traffic flow, ensuring smoother travel for motorists.
