Maryland Whole Foods Stores Face Empty Shelves Following Distributor Cyberattack Shoppers at Whole Foods Market locations, including one in Maryland, are encountering significantly depleted shelves this week, with many sections appearing bare. The widespread product shortages are reportedly a direct result of a recent cyberattack on United Natural Foods (UNFI), a major food distributor for Whole Foods. The cyber incident forced UNFI to take its systems offline, causing an abrupt halt in the flow of goods to stores. A shopper visiting a Maryland Whole Foods noted, "It felt like the start of the pandemic when toilet paper and bottled water, you couldn't find them anywhere." The individual observed that while fresh produce, meats, and fish seemed largely unaffected, pantry staples such as pasta and chips were particularly difficult to find. Signs posted in the stores indicate that they are experiencing "temporary out of stock issues for some products." Supply chain experts suggest that it will take considerable time for operations to normalize following such an abrupt disruption. Consumers are advised to anticipate continued limited availability of certain items as the distributor works to restore its systems and replenish stock.
