This Texas Favorite Is Running Low, and It’s Not What You Think
Texas is facing a strange shortage, and it’s affecting on of the most popular items at The Big Texan. Here’s what’s going on.
AMARILLO, Texas – The Big Texan Steak Ranch, a renowned establishment along Route 66, is reporting an unexpected shortage of one of its most distinctive menu items: "Mountain Oysters," commonly known as bull fries. The restaurant, famous for its 72-ounce steak challenge, typically serves approximately 80,000 pounds of these unique delicacies annually. In a recent social media post, representatives from The Big Texan expressed concern over the dwindling supply. "We go through about 80,000 pounds a year on this," one individual stated, holding up a raw bull fry. "You only have two of these per animal." Another added, "People love these bull fries, and they are in short supply right now." The "Mountain Oysters" are described as one of the restaurant's biggest menu items, with patrons reportedly traveling specifically to try them. The Big Texan has issued what one representative called a "desperation call" to suppliers, emphasizing the critical need for more bull fries to meet customer demand.
