Last of its Kind: Demolition of Fandokovsky Bridge Begins in Belarus
Bobruisk, Belarus - May 29, 2025. The demolition of the Fandokovsky bridge, the last remaining bridge of its type in Belarus, has begun. The project, expected to last 36 months, is being closely monitored using sensors to track stress and strain on the structure in real-time. Valentin Zverinsky, chief designer of the RDUUP "BeldorNII" industry laboratory, stated, "Sensors monitor the bridge's condition during the dismantling of the bridge deck and the span itself." However, concerns are rising as the number and size of cracks in the bridge have increased since the project started. Mr. Zverinsky added, "For such a structure, cracks are very unfavorable." The careful demolition process aims to ensure safety and minimize disruption. The successful completion of this project will mark a significant step in the country's infrastructure maintenance.
