Seven Years of Horror: Teen Escapes Captivity in New Jersey
A horrific case of child captivity has sent shockwaves through Gloucester Township, New Jersey. An 18-year-old girl escaped a home where she had been held captive for seven years, allegedly forced to live in squalid conditions, including a dog crate for a year. Authorities arrested Brenda Spencer, 38, and Branndan Mosley, 41, charging them with kidnapping, criminal restraint, and aggravated assault. Mosley faces additional charges of sexual assault. The victim, believed to be Spencer's daughter and Mosley's stepdaughter, described being removed from school in 2018 and confined to the home. She detailed living in a padlocked bathroom for extended periods, only released when family visited. "Anyone who's been confined for a period of seven years, held in these conditions, living in squalid filth, is going to be damaged psychologically, physically, emotionally, mentally," stated the Camden County Prosecutor. A 13-year-old girl also lived in the home and was allegedly homeschooled. The case highlights the importance of community awareness and vigilance in protecting vulnerable children.
