Paris, France – Gardening enthusiasts are often faced with the dilemma of when and how to properly water their plants. French gardening expert Caro.munoz, known for her contributions to "Jardin & Déco /BFM," recently shared vital insights on this topic in a widely viewed online video. Her advice aims to help both novice and experienced gardeners avoid common pitfalls and ensure their plants thrive. According to Munoz, the timing of watering is paramount. She stressed that watering plants simply "when you think of it" is often detrimental. "It's often too late," she explained in her video. The ideal window for watering is early in the morning, specifically between 6 AM and 9 AM. This period allows the water ample time to seep into the soil and reach the roots before the sun's intensity causes rapid evaporation. "Water has time to descend into the soil and is not evaporated by the sun," she noted. Munoz cautioned against midday watering, likening it to "cooking" or "grilling" plants. She also advised against evening watering, which can create an excessively humid environment. This humidity, she warned, acts as an invitation for fungi, slugs, and snails, potentially leading to plant diseases and pest problems. For assessing soil moisture, Munoz demonstrated the "finger method." By inserting a finger into the soil, gardeners can determine if it's dry enough to require watering or if it retains sufficient moisture, particularly at deeper levels. Beyond timing, she highlighted the benefits of mulching to conserve soil humidity and suggested drip irrigation systems as an efficient, low-effort alternative for consistent watering. Her overarching message: "Listen to your plants, because they tell you when they are thirsty."
