Florida Braces for Another Active Hurricane Season Amidst Ongoing Recovery

Captiva Island, Florida, begins the 2025 hurricane season still recovering from the devastation of 2024. Three major hurricanes last year left many communities reeling, including Captiva Island, where the beloved Mucky Duck beachfront bar was completely destroyed. "It got completely wiped out," says Rob Marciano of CBS News, reporting from the island. "Owners are telling us that it probably won't even be back by the time we get to fall." The 2025 forecast predicts another above-average season, with 13-19 named storms and 6-10 hurricanes, three to five of which could be major. However, a Saharan dust plume currently moving across the Atlantic may offer some temporary relief. Despite the challenges, the resilience of Captiva Island's residents and businesses is evident in their ongoing rebuilding efforts.
