
TikTok Star Murdered After Repeated Online Rejections: Pakistan Grapples with Online Harassment
A 17-year-old Pakistani TikTok star, Sana Yousaf, was tragically killed in her home. A 22-year-old man, who had repeatedly contacted her online and been rejected, broke into her house, shot her, and stole her phone before fleeing. Police quickly apprehended the suspect, who confessed to the crime. Islamabad Police Chief Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi stated, "It was a case of repeated rejections. The boy was trying to reach out to her time and again." He further described the murder as "gruesome and cold-blooded" and the situation as "tragic." The incident has prompted widespread grief and calls for greater online safety for women. Yousaf's father, Syed Yousaf Hassan, shared with the BBC that she was his only daughter and "very brave." The Inspector General of Police for Islamabad emphasized that women who choose to be social media influencers "deserve our encouragement and support."
