
Severe Storms Leave Nearly 160,000 Without Power Across Philadelphia Region
PHILADELPHIA, PA – Severe storms that swept through the Philadelphia region on Thursday night have left thousands of residents without power, with nearly 160,000 PECO customers affected as of Friday morning. The hardest-hit areas include Montgomery, Delaware, Bucks, and Chester counties, alongside Philadelphia. According to PECO, Montgomery County currently has the highest number of outages with over 48,000 customers in the dark, followed by Delaware County with more than 42,000. Bucks County reports over 40,000 outages, while Chester County has more than 17,000, and Philadelphia accounts for nearly 6,000 affected customers. Tom Brubaker, a spokesperson for PECO, stated, "Wind gusts of up to 70 mph brought down trees, tree branches, damaged our electric equipment. We're going to work 24/7 to get everyone back on." Crews are actively working to restore service across the affected areas. Residents are strongly urged to stay clear of any downed power lines and to report outages directly to their service provider.
