Discrimination and Limited Access to Maternity Care in Dominican Republic
In the Dominican Republic, reports of discrimination and limited access to maternity care are surfacing. Dominican citizens interviewed outside maternity wards described a significant decrease in the number of foreign pregnant women seeking care since the implementation of a new migratory protocol. One woman stated, "It's very difficult to enter." Another described being stopped and questioned, adding, "They take your ID, your water, your phone, and they don't let you pass." A man whose wife recently gave birth shared that he was not informed about the death of his child until hours later. These accounts highlight concerns about healthcare accessibility and potential discrimination within the country's healthcare system. Further investigation is needed to fully understand the situation and ensure equitable access to maternity care for all.
